NYCLeaves: Project LeafDrop
Last year, our NYC Council representatives cut the collection and compost of residential leaves out of the city’s budget.
So we – community gardeners, neighborhood associations, and concerned residents – are uniting to harvest and compost fallen leaves, and to document our efforts. We want to keep the compostables out of landfills and persuade the City Council and the Mayor to reinstate the Department of Sanitation’s compost project.
NYC Leaves: Project LeafDrop will be coordinating leaf compost events every Saturday from November 7th-22nd at gardens citywide, where neighbors can bring bags of residential leaves, diverting them from environmentally costly trips to out-of-state landfills, and using them to enrich our soil, our street trees, and our neighborhoods. Check website for times and locations in your area.
NYC Leaves is partnering with GreenThumb, CENYC, the Central Park Conservancy, BK Farmyards, and others to make this project a success.
Garden groups wishing to join Project LeafDrop and
register as a drop-off site, to find specific drop-off dates at a
participating garden near you, or for more information about the project, see the group’s website: www.nycleaves.org or email them at
